‘Feel at home anywhere’ is our motto. At the 'My Homy Place' interior design agency, we believe that – considering how much time we spend indoors everyday – interior design ought to make every one of us feel good, like home, anywhere. So, what is our ‘feel at home anywhere’ philosophy about? Here is a hint: let’s design our interiors and enjoy ourselves, anywhere!
Work spaces, serviced apartments, hotels… every one of us spends a lot of time in generic places which, way too often, fail to make us feel good. Yet, interior design ought to make us feel special. Special, as in unique. Special, as in comfortable, right here, right now.
As interior designers specialised in residential creations, we believe that interior design should make each one of us feel great. A nicely designed place, in fact, should make us feel like there is nowhere else we would like to be. A greatly designed interior, even better, should make us feel home, anywhere.
In short? Interior design is about feeling comfortable, like home, anywhere, and should focus on the user as a core principle!
Interior Design is about feeling comfortable, like at home
Interior design is first of all about comfort.
Have you ever tried describing what being comfortable feels like? Well, you should try. Comfort is a subjective notion but, to us, anyway, being comfortable is about feeling that you are in the right place at the right time. Not too hot, not too cold. And here, of course, hot and cold is not only a question of heat! It is more essentially about feeling nice and cosy, about feeling that the overall atmosphere of a room is balanced and positive. That the colours are relaxing, that every piece of furniture fits and has a role to play, even if its role is only to look nice. Especially, actually, if its role is only to look nice!
Being comfortable, in a sense, is therefore often related to the idea – or the feeling – that not only the place where you are but also the surrounding elements, the whole interior and its design look like you. Or in any case, that is is compatible with you.
In a way, that is, whether you shop for the perfect piece or whether you read your favourite decoration magazine, thinking about interior design is often about dreaming your ideal place. It is about creating that sweet and comfortable place where you can feel nice and peaceful. It is about creating your own nest, about transforming a place into a home and, of course, about making sure that your family and friends will, too, feel home and safe.
Interior Design is about feeling at home… anywhere
Having said this, feeling home anywhere is rather difficult. This is where My Homy Place’s interior design philosophy and services come in.
In the main, we do believe that good design has to be adapted to our way of life. Seriously!
Think about it.
How many times have you felt like a stranger in a hotel or in a serviced apartment, with generic furniture lacking originality and customisation? Yet, where more than in a hotel should you be feeling like home? At My Homy Place, we do believe that hotels and serviced apartments should be designed with this core idea in mind. When it comes to running a hotel, it is essential to make sure that guests will be happy (like home) and come back. Hence, regularly, hotels and serviced apartment managers should conduct design inspections to make sure that all rooms are top quality, that nothing is missing, that everything is perfect. We can help with this!
Let us take another example: work! Shared work spaces have become very common. Sometimes these are vast. Often, they are divided into small cubicles. Generally, working spaces are interchangeable and, most of the time, their users feel even more expendable. Yet,when it comes to running an office and managing a team, providing spaces capable of making people feel good is a fantastic way to motivate people and obtain greater results. Comfortable common areas can be designed and, of course, executive offices can be customised to provide their users with a homy feeling, so as to compensate for big hours and heavy workloads. Not to mention the effect on visitors... We can help with that too.
The same logic also applies to the residential sector of course. Interior design is an important point when it comes to making one's home cosy and welcoming, particularly as far as expatriates are concerned. It can also help making potential buyers feel great when visiting a brand new model apartment, it can help renting a place by making it welcoming and ready to use...
Good interior design focuses on people first!
In other words? Interior design has an important role to play.
Interior design must be comfortable and, to make sure that we do feel well anywhere, interior designers must focus on the users’ needs and personality.
Of course, tastes and styles vary from one person to another and creating and designing public spaces such as offices and hotels can become mission impossible. Nonetheless, most of us do have similar expectations when it comes to interior design. In many cases, therefore, focusing on simplicity, finesse and functionality will help finding a happy medium likely to making everyone happy.
So, ‘feel at home anywhere’ design is…
People often say that home is where the heart is.
In our humble opinion, interior design is about feeling where our heart, passions or tranquillity are, wherever we are.
Hotels and serviced apartments must remind us of ours homes and, whenever possible, give us a chance to escape and dream. Work places, in turn, must make us feel safe, efficient and comfortable enough to move on with our daily routines.
We do spend a major part of our lives indoors, let’s design our interiors and enjoy ourselves, anywhere!
